Methods Of Female Hair Loss Treatment

By Janna Laurenza

Female baldness involves a peculiar shape of hair loss in women, because of hormones, aging, and genes. Every hair matures from its follicle at a rate of about 1/2 inch per month and each of it keeps growing for 2 to 6 years, then rests, and then dies. A new hair quickly starts growing in its place. At a time, almost 85% of the hair grows and 15% rests.

Baldness happens when hair falls and normal new hair does not grow to replace it and thus calls for female hair loss treatment. The rationale why new hair does not generate in female type baldness is not well recognized, but it may be linked to aging. For example, once reached menopause, many women realize that the hair on their head is light, while the hair on their face is coarser. Family history of female type baldness also accounts.

Female pattern baldness is usually diagnosed based on ruling out other causes of hair loss, the appearance and pattern of hair loss, your medical history. The doctor will study you for other symptoms of male hormone (androgen), for example, abnormal new hair development, i.e., on the face or between the belly button and pubic area, modification in menstrual periods. New acne, a skin biopsy or other procedures or blood tests may be used to diagnose skin disorders that cause hair loss.

The hair loss in female types baldness is lasting, if not handled. Hence female hair fall treatment is necessary. In many cases, hair loss is mild to moderate and so you do not require treatment as long as you are happy with your outlook. The only medication sanctioned by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat female type of baldness is minoxidil, applied on the scalp. For women, 2% concentration is used as minoxidil can help hair grow in 20% to 25% of women. In many women it can slow or even stop hair loss but treatment is costly, as you will continue to use the medication. In women who donâ??t respond to the minoxidil, oral spironolactone shall be supplied, which should aid women whose hair loss is caused by male hormones (androgens). This drug is not FDA-approved for female hair fall and can make increased potassium levels in the blood, and couldnâ??t be taken by people with kidney damage or who are pregnant.

Hair transplants remove small wad of hair from those areas where hair is thicker, and replaces them in areas that are balding. This can cause few scarring where the hair is removed, and contains risk for skin infection too. Many transplantation treatments are usually called for, which are a bit expensive, but, the results are often awesome and permanent.

The utilization of hair implants constituted of artificial fibres was banned by the FDA because of the high percentage of infection.

Stitching hair pieces to the scalp is not encouraged as it can make scars, infections, and abscess of the scalp.

Hair weaving, hairpieces, or alteration in hairstyle may conceal hair fall and ameliorate your look. This is mostly the least costly and sound way to deal with female type of hair loss.
