By Nicholas D. Cruz

Are you losing your hair? If you are, you more than likely are aware of the many myths that exist today on the topic, a topic that may be difficult for you to deal with. The cost of hair loss products, most of which are probably not effective, are not economical at all. The price of most hair loss solution remedies can be very pricey. However, without research, you may not know if the product actually works without personal trial and error. In this article, we will talk about hair loss myths and what you can try that may or may not help you with this problem.

Thick healthy hair, according to some myths today, is possible if you cut it regularly so that it will grow back thicker than ever. Some people take this to the extreme of shaving their heads in the hope that when their hair grows back, it will be thicker than before. Most of the time, this doesn't work. It really does not help to shave your head, especially in regard to preventing hair loss. Since the thickest part of your hair is actually at the base near the root, hair simply looks thicker when cut short. But as it starts to grow, it will be the same thickness as it was before you cut it.

Can the sun actually cause hair loss? This is a concern that many people have. Unless you have short hair already, you may run the risk of getting a sunburn on your head from direct sunlight which could lead to hair loss in the burn area. If your hair is long enough, your scalp will be protected from the direct rays of the sun. It is possible to dry your hair excessively, but not lose it from too much sun. Severe sunburn on the scalp, however, can cause damage to hair follicles. If you have a hat, it is recommended that you wear it when you spend time in the sun. Preventing sunburn on your scalp is also as simple as using liberal amounts of sunscreen on your head.

By eating in a healthy manner, consuming vegetables and whole-grain products, you can supplement your diet the natural way. Genetic hair loss is not something that can be fixed, however, by taking vitamins and minerals.

Might your hair style be causing your hair loss? Though it may sound strange, your hairstyle can actually cause your hair loss. Many people wear certain popular hairstyles such as cornrows, dreadlocks, and even ponytails. These hairstyles are known for their beauty and their ability to cause people to lose their hair. By wearing these styles continuously, permanent damage can actually occur.

By finding a different way to wear your hair, in a much looser style, hair loss will not appear. Many hairstylist will treat your hair with chemicals which can be bad for your hair, especially if you do it over a long period of time. Your hairstyle will more than likely have nothing to do with your hair loss if you have pattern baldness. You should do plenty of research to make sure the remedy you want to try for your hair loss is based on something other than a myth. When you hear something about hair loss treatments from your family or friends or even read about them on the internet, you should question their validity. With all of the hair loss treatments, someone needs to be able to steer you in the right direction, and your doctor might be the right person.
