Hair Loss - Taking A Look At The Causes

By Sam K. Sparkman

Hair loss is something nobody likes to see, but it happens to many people for various reasons. Some of the reasons for losing your hair are hormonal imbalances, the medicines you are taking, your genetic makeup, or simply because you are aging. This article will be examining some of the potential causes of hair loss in more detail.

Pattern baldness is a normal cause of hair loss, but it isn't as common in women as it is in men. Since it's a genetic disposition built into your DNA, it can happen at any age. It all depends on your genes. Some people, for example, may start losing their hair in the twenties or even earlier. In most cases, pattern baldness begins with a receding hairline and eventually affects the whole top of the head. There's not a lot you can do about the genes you inherited, so you will probably not meet much success treating your hair loss with pharmaceuticals, supplements, or herbs. Laser treatment or hair transplant surgery might be effective, though these can be costly procedures. Scalp infections are one potential hair loss cause that you should know about. Ringworm, as an example, isn't actually a worm but rather a fungus which can cause hair loss by invading your scalp. Even though it's observed more in children, it can affect anybody at any age. Hair loss can also be caused by another fungal infection, called tinea capitis, which also attacks the scalp.

Hair loss is sometimes caused by medicines or medical treatments. Blood pressure medicine can make you lose your hair, and so can medicine for depression, lowering cholesterol, birth control, and also acne.

If you notice hair loss after taking a certain medication, ask your doctor about it. Depending on what you are taking medication for, don't quit taking it on your own, because it could be dangerous. If your hair loss is caused by genetic factors, the medication wouldn't necessarily be the cause, so get verification for this from your doctor. The side-effect of losing one's hair is obvious from those taking the medical treatments of radiation therapy or chemotherapy. The nice thing about these treatments, is once they are done, the lost hair will almost always be regrown.

Even though people do not want to hear it, but you will lose your hair as you get older. Your hair will not be as full as you get on up an age. The older you get, the more likely it is that you'll start to experience thinning and hair loss. Unfortunately, you will soon see that your hair falls outs at a much faster pace than new hair growth appears. There are numerous ways to make this better such as buying a hair replacement of getting a hair transplant. No matter how old you are, you should consult with a doctor if you start losing a lot of hair in a short amount of time. Hair loss often increases with age, but this is generally a gradual process. In conclusion, hair loss can be caused by plenty of things. So get to a doctor ASAP if you are finding more and more hair on your pillow and you do not know why. In the majority of cases, the cause is genetic. At this point, you will have to accept it and get a good toupee or wig. However, you still want to know what is happening and why.
