What To Do When Experiencing Hair Loss

By Rickie Tomkowicz

There's nothing quite like seeing a guy with a full head of thick hair to make you jealous, if you're currently losing yours. Life obviously isn't fair, but did it really have to mess with your hair!? Being bald is something that some folks can't get their heads around. You don't have to accept this fate, however. Here are some hair loss tips that may work for you.

Learning to cope with tough times is imperative, as constant anxiety over rough circumstances can expedite your hair loss. If you had a death of a family member recently, seek counseling so that you can deal with your loss. This will reduce your anxiety and help to fight hair loss.

People who comb or brush their hair frequently should purchase a better brush if they're losing hair. Make sure that you have a gentle comb or brush and make sure that you're keeping the tangles out of your hair. Pulling on tangles will pull your hair out, so brush frequently and gently here.

Do not use any hair loss medications until you have discussed it with your doctor. While some over-the-counter treatments are safe, others may not be. Also, if you suffer from any medical conditions your doctor may tell you which hair loss treatments are safe for you to use and which are not.

Improving the blood circulation to the scalp is going to help you lessen the chances of hair loss. This can be accomplished by massaging your scalp with vegetable oil and then wrapping a warm towel around your hair for two or three hours a few times a week. It will increase the blood flow and prevent hair loss.

To prevent hair loss, work with what you have. Instead of fighting cowlicks, forcing your hair to part unnaturally or spending hours with hot curling irons or straighteners, see what you can do with it, flaws and all, naturally. Constant styling, brushing, combing, pinning and pulling of the hair weakens it, causes breakage and eventual loss.

To prevent hair damage that can lead to hair loss or thinning, don't use sulfates, formaldehyde or sodium chloride on your hair. These chemicals can sometimes be found in hair products like shampoo or styling products, and they're known to cause damage to the hair, which increases the rate of hair shedding and breakage.

Use a conditioner on your hair that will allow it to rebuild nutrients and be more manageable. Conditioner can strengthen the hair as well as make brushing or combing less damaging to the hair. Massage vigorously when conditioning to stimulate blood flow which will prompt the hair to be more responsive to conditioning.

Making sure that you're eating foods rich in iron is a great way you can help strengthen your hair and prevent it from falling out. Think of eating foods like green leafy veggies, liver, dates, raisins and other dried fruits, and even whole grain cereals. These food sources are a great source of iron.

Be careful to not dye your hair too often. The chemicals in hair dye, specifically ammonia, can dry and make your hair fall out. It can also make new hair growing in thin and brittle. If you insist on using hair dye, you may want to try a temporary one.

Believing that there's nothing to be done about hair loss can be a hopeless feeling. It may sound trite to someone with their hair, but it's seriously depressing to start losing it. Make sure you implement the tips you've just read, when you want to finally do something about that hair loss.
