Women's Hair Loss - The Numbers Are Surprising

By Eric Huff

It's well known why men lose hair. However, you may not realize that women also have the problem with hair loss. There is some research that suggests that women can be more inclined to experiencing hair loss. Why then, do we not hear as much about women's hair loss as we do about the various hair loss afflictions that affect men? We don't know why that is. However, we can go into some of the main reasons for hair loss suffered by women. So if you care to know more, then please continue reading.

Some medications that women take will definitely cause hair loss for them. So many women undergo chemotherapy treatment, and that's one thing that will do it. Others cause hair to fall out because of the way the medication interacts with a woman's body chemistry. But some experiences are not of direct hair loss. Sometimes the medications impede the growth of new hair. This can make it look like a woman is suffering from hair loss when she is actually suffering from no hair growth. However she will still seem to be experiencing hair loss to those who don't know any better.

Menopause is one of the leading contributors to women's hair loss. Hair loss is a part of menopause, but there are many other changes that happen, as well. Sometimes massive shedding of hair happens after menopause has completed. The culprit in this scenario is the dramatic drop in estrogen, and then that causes a host of other changes. However in this situation, hormone therapy cannot restore her hair as is possible with other situations. Talk with your doctor about the other options that are available to you.

For first-time mothers, this is something that can can undue alarm. However once the body chemistry and hormones return to normal then things will settle down with the hair. The important thing is to avoid over-reacting to it.

Most of them cannot be controlled. They have to do with hormone levels and family medical history. Some hair loss is temporary and some conditions are lasting. For hair loss issues, the very best approach is to get in and let your doctor figure out what's going on.
