Hair Care Practices to Prevent Women's Hair Loss

By Eric Huff

Hair loss is ultimately the result of something in your genetic code. The time when your hair loss occurs, however, can be influenced quite a bit by your hair care practices. If women's hair loss runs in your family, you may eventually have to face it, but you can forestall this quite a bit by taking good care of your hair. You may be confused by the wide variety of opinions when it comes to hair care. We've gathered some of the most widely recognized methods to help prevent hair loss.

Avoid the habit of those styles that require a lot of pulling on your hair. Some examples are ponytails or even a bun that is very tight. Pigtails that are very tight plus anything with a tight curl also put too much of a pulling on the hair.

This may be obvious, but we'll say it anyway - be sure to comb your hair each day. Depending on your type of hair, if you have to use a brush, then use it every day. What you want to do is prevent any matting of your hair because that can cause oily clogging of your follicles. So many women have dreadlocks, and they are terrible for the scalp and hair for this very reason.

Stopping hair loss altogether can be some tricky waters to navigate. Some women are just genetically predisposed to it.

Get your hair cut regularly by a qualified stylist. There is not enough evidence at this point to say that this will definitely keep your hair healthy. Yet it can, beyond a doubt, make your hair look better. This is important if you are fighting against women's hair loss. You want the hair you have left to look as good as possible right? Another reason for regular trims and haircuts is that your stylist may be able to identify the early signs of hair loss so that you can get in to see your doctor about it before it gets too out of control. This could be a way to stop the hair loss in its tracks! Unfortunately, for some women the best hair care will not stop hair loss. Your awareness of how to take care of your hair will help you have more confidence. That goes a long way toward having a happy life-even if you notice that your hair has started to get thin. Of course you can always consult with your doctor if you think you may have some thinning later on.
