Men's Hair Loss and What You Can Do About It

By Eric Huff

For most men, the subject of hair loss is a sensitive area. It can be difficult for most men to accept this loss gracefully. In an effort to hide hair loss, some will do anything. Some will deny they are losing their hair even as they watch it fall out. The good news is that there are some things you can do to minimalize the effect that hair loss will have on your life. Understand that you are not the only one with thinning hair and that it is okay to talk about it.

Nix the dyeing of your hair. Hair dye is traditionally associated with women but men are no strangers to that particular bottle. Dyeing your hair often can weaken it and make it easier for your scalp to shed it. In fact, sometimes dyeing your hair too frequently can cause the hair to fall out altogether. This is why you should learn how to be all right with your given hair color. If you have seen that your hair is beginning to thin, you should not choose the dye bottle, instead you should choose a strengthening shampoo bottle or discuss it with your doctor.

Another option for reducing hair loss are herbal remedies. For example, a remedy used for years to encourage your scalp to grow hair has been Aloe Vera. Some claim that rubbing Aloe Vera gel into your scalp and existing hair, will strengthen your hair and allow regrowth to occur.

Wear your hair in a short hairstyle. It is counter intuitive to grow your hair long when you notice that you are starting to thin out on top. Wearing your hair long after you start to lose it will only draw attention to the loss. Besides, a shorter hairstyle requires less maintenance. A man dealing with hair loss will look more put together with a shorter hairstyle. And when it comes to disguising your hair loss, a shorter style works better.

It is counter intuitive to wear your hair long when you notice it starting to recede so go ahead and get a shorter hairstyle. Hair loss is actually accentuated by a longer hairstyle. Shorter hairstyles require less time to maintain. They look better on people who are facing men's hair loss. A shorter haircut can also help hide your hair loss. Men's hair loss is something that affects a lot of men at some point or another in their lifetimes. Some men will have to adjust to being completely bald by a certain age. Some will make the choice to go completely bald to avoid the thinning process. Regardless, you are not in this alone; others are dealing with it as well. Losing their hair is a concern for all men.
