What You Didn't Know About Women's Hair Loss

By Elena Lopes

The reasons for male hair loss are well-documented. Women can go through the same thing when it comes to hair loss. There is some research that suggests that women can be more inclined to experiencing hair loss. Why then, do we not hear as much about women's hair loss as we do about the various hair loss afflictions that affect men? We don't really have an answer for that. What we do have for you are a few of the major reasons that women lose their hair. This article will give you that, so please continue with it and you'll know more about it.

First, we'd like to mention that medications that some women take will have a direct impact on her ability to keep her hair. So many women undergo chemotherapy treatment, and that's one thing that will do it. Other medical treatments include certain types of medication that simply causes it due to chemical interaction with a woman's body. In other cases, the hair will not always fall out. In such situations, it's merely a cessation of new hair growth that is the effect. In such conditions of interactivity, eventually she will appear to be balding or hair is falling out, but that's not the case. Still though, it will look the same and people won't know any different. A woman's hormones can also cause havoc with her hair and produce a similar effect. Many possible reactions can occur when the hormones become out of balance. Things such as weight changes, or mood shifts, and of course changes in energy levels. The range of effect on hair include outright hair loss, or maybe some degree of thinning, but also an interruption in the growth cycle. Pay attention to your body, and if you ever see a pattern of change, then the smart thing to do is make an appointment with your family physician. Your doctor can check your hormones and tell you whether or not you need to start some hormone therapy to balance yourself out.

Pregnancy is another condition that can have a huge impact on a woman's hair. The change is different for women, for some there's an increase in the rate of growth, and for others there's some loss of hair. The 'lucky' women who grew all that hair will lose it fairly quickly after the baby is born.

This is normal, but for first-time pregnancies it can be a bit shocking. But be patient about it because all things with your hair will return to normal after your body calms down and does the same. The important thing is to avoid over-reacting to it.

Telogen effluvium is another female hair loss that is seen. But it is commonly called, temporary shedding. But this type of shedding is different because it happens very quickly. This temporary shedding can be triggered by a traumatic event, or even after something like surgery. It can also occur under times of extreme emotional distress. Men are not as lucky because with this condition, the hair will grow back and be fine after the distress or trauma are over. But, with this type of hair loss, you won't ever know if it will occur with you. There are many causes of hair loss in women. There are environmental, emotional, and physical scenarios and reasons. But the one way you can find out definitively is to see your doctor for tests. Perhaps they'll need to run blood tests and other tests, but they'll help you to know exactly why it's happening. You also owe it to yourself to find out the best options for your situation.
