There are certain medications that affect whether or not a woman gets to keep her hair. Some simply cause hair to fall out (like chemotherapy). So what happens is that the cycle of hair growth is interrupted, and it stops growing. But the net effect is the appearance of hair loss. When a woman's hormones get out of whack a number of things can happen. Energy levels can be affected as well as moods and weight. There can be additional effects on the growth cycle of hair, or it can be lost or begin to thin-out. Sometimes you don't always notice these things right away, but if you do then you should consult your doctor, immediately. After your doctor assesses runs tests, then a solid recommendation will be made and you can proceed as you see fit to do.

There is still another condition of hair loss in females, and that is known as telogen effluvium. This condition can sometimes be referred to as, temporary shedding. But the unusual aspect of this is that the shedding occurs at a very quick rate. This shedding occurs after especially traumatic events like surgery or traumas. Extreme distress of the emotions can also cause this. Men are not as lucky because with this condition, the hair will grow back and be fine after the distress or trauma are over. The peculiar part of this condition is that you'll never know if it will happen to you unless it happens.

Other causes of women's hair loss include conditions of the chronic variety. The thing about so many is that the hair loss is due to the medication and not the particular condition. In other situations, if there is hair loss involved it is a symptom, and that will help the physician make a diagnosis. As you can imagine, very often the chronic illness will last forever and throughout the remainder of the person's life. Then it becomes a situation of quality of life and effectively managing the illness. In so many cases, there are no other alternatives for medication, so that means the hair loss will have to be lived with. A doctor will help you figure out your best course of action with this type of hair loss.

Women and men have equality when it comes to hair loss. So talk to your doctor and find out what your options are. Just because other women suffer doesn't mean you have to just let your hair go!
