Some Excellent Split-Ends Hair Treatment Tips

By Eugene Yeng

If you look in the mirror and think the image looking back at you has a bristly brush on its head you probably want some split-ends hair treatment tips. When the layers on the individual strands separate, because they are dry and brittle, it can be very frustrating. But, there are ways you can reduce the incidence of split and broken ends and prevent them becoming even worse than they are.

Your dryer, curling wand or straightening iron are all contributing to the damage. These tools use extreme heat to help you get the look you want. But, they also dry out locks to the point where they break more easily. If you start to get ready a little earlier you can allow natural drying time which is much kinder. If you have to use a curler or straightener use the lowest heat setting for the least amount of time possible.

Changing colors is fun. It might be a different look for each season or for a special occasion. But, the chemicals used to change color also do it damage. The more often you change the color the more damage you do. And, going from dark to light is more damaging than the other way around. If you want to change your color it will require extra care to keep it looking good and prevent breakage. Paying a little bit extra for specially designed conditioners and shampoos is worth it to help keep the surface moisturized.

When shampooing move the locks gently from side to side rather than scrunching to get the shampoo through. Scrunching creates tangles and tangles result in broken tips when brushed. Do not wash your crowning glory too often either. It contains natural oils to keep it moist. Excessive washing can strip it of these natural oils resulting in dryness and many more breaks.

A good deep conditioning treatment once a week will help to keep the individual strands moist and soft. Some people use natural oils and massage them into their scalp and locks to prevent drying. Anything that prevents drying out of the individual strands will help to reduce splits.

Using your fingers to remove tangles as you would for a small child can prevent or reduce breakage. Holding a lock at one end then ripping the brush through the tangle is almost the worst thing you could do. Replacing your brush with a wide toothed comb can make a big difference to how quickly damage occurs too. Hair is quite fragile and the gentler the treatment the better it will look.

Splits usually occur at the bottom of the hairs. Having a trim or cut regularly, about every six to eight weeks, will remove the damaged base and make it look nicer. Removing the damaged part also prevents it from moving further up the strand. If you don't trim the breaks away they can travel further up requiring even more length to be cut off. You can temporarily hide the frizz for a special night out by using hairspray and smoothing the hair down before the spray sets.

A nice hairstyle looks good and makes you feel good and the opposite can also be true. Using these split-ends hair treatment tips will help to keep it looking good. Nothing except trimming can get rid of them altogether but you can reduce their visible appearance.
