Some of The Reasons for Women's Hair Loss

By Eric Huff

Women's hair loss happens a lot more frequently than you might think. While it is true that male baldness commands more attention than hair loss in women, the latter happens almost just as much as it does in men. What are the reasons for more awareness of male hair loss?

There are not many, if any, media programming on the subject of female hair loss problems. What is known about this is there could be a variety of reasons for thinning hair in women. So what we'll do is talk more about this condition seen in women.

Pregnancy is another condition that can have a huge impact on a woman's hair. Some women lose hair faster than normal and others will grow it faster than normal. This is quite common after the baby is born when all of the extra hair that grew in while the woman was pregnant starts to be shed.

One leading cause of female baldness and hair thinning is alopecia areata. Surprisingly, it's a disorder of the the autoimmune system. A person has no way of finding out by your own efforts, alone. Your family doctor is the only person to make that kind of diagnosis. If you notice that your hair is getting thin or that you are starting to lose it, contact your doctor. The good news is that you can treat this disorder. It can be treated because it is an autoimmune problem. So your doctor can help you determine the best approach to your treatment.

Menopause has the distinction of causing hair loss in a huge majority of cases with women. Menopause causes a host of things to happen for a woman, and hair loss is just one of them. Sometimes massive shedding of hair happens after menopause has completed. The main reason for this phenomenon is due to a drop in estrogen levels and the effect is has on other chemicals. However in this situation, hormone therapy cannot restore her hair as is possible with other situations. As always, talk to your doctor and look into other alternatives.

It's certainly a fact that women do not get the same amount of exposure as men concerning hair loss. There are many different conditions and situations in which women can experience hair loss, or slowed growth, or even thinning.

Also, many if not most are unable to be controlled. There can be reasons due to genetics and hormone levels. Also... there will be cases of temporary hair loss which is fortunate, however some types are more lasting and permanent. A doctor will be able to help you figure out why your hair is getting thinner and what you can do about it.
